Announcements

  • Deadline for Paper #5
The deadline for the last paper has been changed to 5 pm on Wednesday, 14 December so that people who want to answer the question about Eurydice have time to see the play and then write the paper.

  • Policy Change on Papers
The original paper rules said that each student had to turn in five papers, one by each stated deadline.  All students could turn in up to two more papers to replace the lowest grades on the papers they had turned in on time.  A substantial number of students have missed one or more paper deadlines.

The new rule:  If you missed one or more of the first three papers, you can turn them in by Friday, 9 December (Friday of Dead Week); the maximum available grade will be 6 points (so a 2-point penalty for missing the deadline).  Notice that you will still only be able to replace the grades of papers turned in on time by turning in one or two extra papers.

Notice the policy that hasn't changed: If on the fourth paper (the one due Saturday, 11 November)  or fifth paper, you fail to include appropriate in-text citations and bibliography, your paper will be an automatic 0 and be treated as plagiarism, as discussed several times in class and on the paper rubric.

  • Meetings
Class is cancelled for Thursday, 10 November.  In its place, all students must meet with me for 20-40 minutes individually in my office, Avery 347.  The sign-up sheet for the meetings is available here.

Sign up for one or two 20 minute slots depending on how much time you think you need to discuss your papers (including paper #3 which I will return at the meeting) and the paper which is due on Saturday, 12 November.  Please do not pick a slot between 12 and 1 on Thursday unless  you cannot meet any other time.

If none of the times are possible, email me and we'll find another time to meet.

  • Change in deadline for Paper #3
Because I didn't remind the class this week that paper #3 was due on Saturday, I have decided to extend the due date until noon on Tuesday, 25 October.

  • Paper Reminder
You can turn in up to seven papers, with the top five counting toward your grade.  You must turn in the first five on the scheduled due dates.  The other two can be turned in any time before dead week (i.e., the last week of classes).
